Our school is focused on being as environmentally sustainable as possible. From our organic fruit at snack time to teachings in the garden about how everything in nature has a place. We work with the children to show them the beauty in our natural world so they will want to protect it.
We work with local non-profits and engage the children in learning the meaning of charity. We host at least 2 charity events a year.
We have individual academic goals for each child, this includes social and emotional goals as well. Individual education for each Child’s strengths and interests allowing every child to reach their highest potential.
THE CEDARS MONTESSORI DIFFERENCE
Our school is conveniently located one half mile up the Lake Alice Road. Cedars Montessori is in a state of the art Yurt nestled in a beautiful park like setting.
We enjoy the small town pace and believe that this relaxed environment best suits children. Our great ratio of 1 teacher to 8 children is enhanced with Montessori trained teachers.
We offer either a 3 or 4 half day program that runs from 9:00am-1:00pm for children between the ages of 2 ½ and 5 years old.
The Prepared Environment
The classroom is a very neat and orderly environment allowing the child to freely choose the activities they will do that day. The prepared environment is set up in a way where the children can independently make their own choices of works and are readily stocked and prepared for use. The Teachers use careful record keeping tracking and guiding the child to appropriate work choices.
The Multiage Classroom
A traditional Montessori classroom is set up for the 2 ½ year old to the 5 year old. There is a wide variety of materials on the shelves appropriate for all ages and stages of development. By having the mixed ages it creates a very rich and dynamic classroom community where everyone helps each other. This creates a natural environment for independence, social, leadership, and nurturing skills to flourish. We meet them where they are at by individualizing their education by recognizing their personalities, learning styles, and interests. It is our acute observation skills that alert us to when a child is in a sensitive period and ready to be introduced to certain materials. These sensitive periods are very important in allowing the child the joys that come with education.
